RSG Commends Gas Firm For Investing In PH
The Rivers State Govern
ment has reiterated its commitment to encourage and provide enabling environment for investors and intending Investors in the state.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Chukwuma Chinye who stated this during the official launching of BOC Gases multi –Million naira Air separation Unit (ASU) in Port Harcourt, said the BOC Gases will enjoy her stay and investment in Rivers State.
The Commissioner who was represented at the occasion by the Director of Information in the ministry, Mrs Divinewill Asianiah assured the company that their investment in Rivers State will be beneficial both to the state and the Company.
The commissioner noted that the company investment will no doubt increase the revenue of the state as well as generate employment, as he called on others to follow suit and invest in the state.
Earlier, the Managing Director, Johnson Idowu, disclosed that the company will produce 13 ton of gas per day, Noting that the company was displaying her long term commitment to expanding the Nigerian Industrial Gas market through the establishment of its state of art air Separation unit in Port Harcourt.
Idowu said that the establishment of its plant in Port Harcourt would change the fortune of the company which has existed over 35 years in Nigeria, stressing that the Air Separation Unit (ASU) is entirely cooled and consumes minimal energy.
He noted that the Port Harcourt Gas plant will supplement the existing capacity and significantly strengthen her position as a leading supplier of industrial gasses in the country.
According to him, Investing in Rivers State is crucial to our strategy of growing and expanding the company operations throughout West Africa.
‘’ The plant components were designed and manufactured in the USA before being shipped to India for assembly and testing. The need was identified for an automatic modular, pre-fabricated, skid mounted Air Separation Unit (ASU) to meet harsh African operating conditions four years ago. An existing design was modified and adapted resulting in this new and unique ASU concept being developed’’, he said.
He however said a successful plant performance test was carryout in Indian in, January, 2014, the ASU was packaged and shipped to Port Harcourt in 40 ft containers, before being installed and successfully commissioned last May.
He noted that the Port Harcourt plant operation has resulted in job creation, adding that 20 contractors, personnel were on site during the installation of the ASU, adding that good number of training and unskills have been conducted as the ASU operators.
Idowu also said about ten new operational positions have been created with a number of these positions filled from within BOC Gases Nigeria.
