NURTW Berates CTC Chairmen Over Alleged Illegal Fees

The National Union of
Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rivers State Chapter, has berated the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee Chairmen in the State over alleged illegal fees imposed on its members.
Speaking to The Tide, the state secretary of the union, Comrade Chuks Boms said the levies are illegal and members of the union cannot comply with such illegal fees payments.
Bom said some Local Government Council Area CTC Chairman are unnecessary improsing levies that were beyond their power on the union members in the state.
He said the illegal levies are threatening the daily business of the union members in the state.
The union scribe said the levies were not only uncalled for but calculated attempt by the CTC chairmen to test the strength of the union.
He accused Ahoada East Local Government Council CTC chairman of imposing illegal fee called Orashi region fee on the union members of through the Council area.
He advised the CTC chairmen to immediately withdraw such Orashi fee ticket being imposed on the union members, stressing that the union would soon mobilize its members out for total showdown with same of the CTC chairmen over such illegal fees.
Bom called upon the state government to intervene through the commissioner of  Transport by calling the CTC chairman to order and allow industrial peace reign in the state.
The union scribe said the union support the state government giant stride in the transport sector stressing that members of the union would always abide by the rules and regulations governing traffic law in the state.
He appealed for the rehabilitation of some roads in the state as members of the union are daily faced with the situation of vehicle maintenance as a result of the deplorable nature of certain roads within their commercial routes.
