NULGE Issues Ekiti Govt 21-Day Ultimatum
The Nigerian Union
of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ekiti State has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government over unresolved welfare packages for the workers.
In a statement signed by NULGE’s State Chairman, Comrade Bunmi Ajimoko said the government has ignored the union’s advice and decided to carry on with its activities without giving a thought to the problems of council workers in the state. Some of the union demands include non-implementation of consolidated health salary structure (CONMESS) and consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS).
The union said nurses working at the councils take monthly salaries far below their counterparts in the state civil service.
The statement said the underfunding of the local government service commission and other local government agencies through an Act of Ekiti State House of Assembly to reduce its statutory grants from 5 per cent to 4 per cent without due procedures followed.
The union said if useful moves are not made by the state government before the expiration of the ultimatum council workers in the 16 local government areas of the state would down tools.
