Nigeria Generates $2.97bn From Non-Oil Sector In 2013

Promotion Council (NEPC) has announced that the non-oil sector of the country’s economy generated a value of $2.97 billion in 2013.
In a release by NEPC made available to The Tide and signed by the Executive Director of NEPC Mr. Olusegun Awolowo said about 117 products were exported to 13 countries worldwide in 2013 as provided by cobalt International Limited.
Awolowo said the country’s exports were no longer limited to the traditional markets of Europe.
He stressed that the country export culture has so improved and diversified which is being reflected in increase in the number of products being exported.
The executive director said made-in-Nigeria products especially in West African sub-region market elicit great demand as customers marveled about the quality and wondered if the products were produced in the country.
He said efforts were on by NEPC to scale up the penetration of the regional market by made-in-Nigeria products, stressing that this has led to the initiative called “lome Trade Hub”.
Awolowo said efforts at having permanent trade hub within the West Africa sub region is in place and he added that such moves would yield positive dividends for the sub region.
He said NEPC in its efforts to provide the platform for penetrating target international market with made-in-Nigeria products spear heads Nigeria participation in international trade fairs/exhibitions every year.
He said this development has largely succeeded in exposing Nigeria companies and organisation the international market and opened up market contacts that have yielded positive results to individual companies and the country in terms of increased in flow of foreign exchange and revenue generation from non-oil sector.
