The National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has appealed to theCross River State Government to establish drug abuse rehabilitation and treatment centre in the state.       The State Commander of the agency, Mr Kayode Adeniyi told newsmen in Calabar on Sunday that the proposed centre would take care of persons with drug abused related problems in the state.
Adeniyi also solicited for operational vehicles from the state government to facilitate the operations of the command.
He said that the command has made progress in reducing high demand for illicit drugs in the state.
“We have also carried out different anti-drug abuse programmes among various groups, particularly among the youths, both in school and out of school.
“The NYSC Drug Free Club has been a formidable vanguard in the propagation of anti-drug campaign programmes among youths,” he said.
Adeniyi said that the command had successfully counselled, rehabilitated and reintegrated 33 drug users who were referred to the office this year.
The commander said that the dangers of production, trafficking and consumption of narcotics were undermining national security, promoting corruption, criminality and terrorism.
He urged all stakeholders to collaborate on efforts aimed at reducing or eradicating drug abuse in the state.
