NBA Polls:Lawyers React Over Alegeh’s Victory
Port Harcourt lawyers have
reacted over Mr Augustine Alegeh’s election as the 27th President of the Nigerian Bar Association in an election that was conducted penultimate Tuesday.
Speaking to The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend, Barr. Uche Allen, said the election of Augustine Alegeh (SAN) has defeated the zoning formats that had been the hallmark of NBA’s presidential election.
According to him, “by that formula, the Western Bar would have produced the president but many factors have contributed to Alegeh’s victory. First, I must say that the president-elect had a good manifesto”.
“Again, the learned SAN is known to be intelligent, forthright, hardworking and disciplined. Besides, he is viewed as a team player. His charisma contributed a lot to his victory. In deed, his victory was well deserved,” he stated.
Uche said though the Western Bar was to produce the president, they failed because they were divided amongst themselves.
He pointed out that if the West had combined the votes, they would have won but they fielded many candidates.
Also speaking, Barr Obinna Wodu, noted that Alegeh (SAN) reached out to the electorate by often sending text messages to members of the Bar.
He said Alegeh (SAN) who hailed from the Mid Western Bar had won the election because the remarkable qualities that stood out for him in penultimate Tuesday’s election.
Bar Wodu said that the Mid Western Bar comprising Delta and Edo States gave him a block vote with others he was able to garner, he won. The Port Harcourt lawyer noted that the learned SAN deserved his victory.
He expressed belief that Alegeh (SAN) would take the NBA to greater heights given his track records. Another Port Harcourt based lawyer, Barr. Jackson Assor, who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt at weekend, said he was proud of Alegeh (SAN) over his victory at the NBA presidential election.
He noted that the learned SAN had unsettled primordial tribal and ethnic sentiments which had been the bane of this nation.
Assor remarked that good leaders should be allowed to rule no matter where they come from. He said, “those whose aspire to rule us must have impeccable records and that is what played in favour of Alegeh (SAN). I think he is able to move the NBA a step forward judging from his manifesto. We wish him all the best.”
Barr Assor called on the entire NBA to support the president elect. The president elect is expected to take over from the Rivers-born Mr Okey Wali (SAN), who is the 26th president of the NBA.
However, Femi Falana (SAN) had written to the NBA over envisaged irregularities as he had been informed by some members of the Bar.
In his letter, he had demanded for the delegates list but he was not given.
