Man, 24, Docked OverTheft Of 20 Plastic Cases

A 23-year old man,
Olamide Akin, was on Thursday charged before a Badagry Magistrates Court in Lagos State for alleged theft of 20 plastic cases valued at N3000.
Akin, who resides at No. 15, Joseph Dosu St., Badagry, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 9, at Agbalata Market in Badagry.
Uko said that the plastic cases belonged to one Mrs Felicia Oke.
The Prosecutor said that the accused entered the shop of Oke on the pretext of buying some containers.
He said that when the vendor went to look for a lower denomination currency notes to complete the transaction, the accused took the plastics and fled.
Uko said the offence committed contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Our correspondent reports that Section 285 of the law prescribes three years imprisonment as penalty for stealing.
Miss Mausi Hungbo, counsel to the accused, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail since investigation into the matter was still being conducted by the police.
Hungbo assured the court that his client would not jump bail and would always be present in court for trial.
The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He said that the surety must be resident within the Badagry magisterial district.
He adjourned the case till July 17 for further hearing.
