LGA Earmarks N.5m For Flood Control

The Kivika-
samma Local Government Council of Jigawa State has released N500,000 for the control of flooding in the area.
The council’s Chairman Alhaji Muhammed Maitafari said this while inspecting the waste clearing exercise in Kirikasamma community.
Alhaji Maitafari said that the money would help the waste management authority to procure environmental sanitation equipment and support  community organisations participating in the exercise.
The council chairman also said that the exercise was designed to ease the flow of water from residential areas and other locations.
According to him, the council has embarked on the construction of dams and culverts to achieve the goal.
Alhaji Maitafari also urged the residents of the communities to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse into water ways and keep their environment clean.
He said that the council’s efforts at ensuring free flow of water in the community was hampered  by the altitude of the residents, stressing that the situation has underscored the need for a change of attitude.
The council boss however warned that, the administration would not hesitate to apply force to ensure compliance with the law  Alhaji Maitafari also urged the waste management committee to ensure proper utilization of the money with view to achieving the target goal.
