Chairman of Caretaker Committee of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Hon Stanley Benebo has dispelled plans by some groups in Kula Community to attack the governor’s entourage when he visits the area.
Hon. Benebo, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Port Harcourt over threat by one Ajagidi Dennis Asawari in a local radio station, called on security agencies to investigate and arrest Asawari.
The AKULGA CTC chairman insisted that Aswari’s assertion that Governor Amaechi should learn how to swim before he visits Kula community indirectly means that the life of the Rivers State governor is in danger anytime he visits the area.
He, therefore, urged the authorities not to treat the matter lightly alleging that Asawari and his group have been terrorizing the communities in the oceanic area over the years.
Benebo also accused the Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo as a major sponsor of the group, but however, warned that no nobody can stop the governor from visiting the area.
He said,”If the governor wants to visit the community, it’s his right; he can visit any place and familiarize himself with the people he is governing”, adding that, “this is not a political issue. It is not APC or PDP. This is about life and we are not taking it lightly.”
He dismissed claims by the opposition that the Amaechi-led administration has not touched the life of Kula people, saying his appointment as the first Kula son to head the council is unprecedented including the elevation of the traditional stool of the community to second class.
Other projects executed by Amaechi in the area according to Benebo include the sitting of model primary and health centre and revitalization of the Kula water scheme,” anybody who claims that the governor has not done anything in Kula is blinder than the bat.”
Meanwhile, a representative of Kula community and traditional ruler, His Highness, David Emineye-Orlu has dissociated the people of the area from the threat to the governor’s life.
Emineye-Orlu said the threat by one Asawari was sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), as he disowned him .
“The threat has exposed the opposition as anti-Kula people because they do not mean well for the community. We believe that the Minister of Sports is bent in causing disaffection in Kula”.
The Kula community traditional ruler alleged that the said Asawari is expressing his bitterness after he was declared wanted by the state government for certificate forgery during the recent teacher’s recruitment, emphasizing that such person does not have the moral stance to speak as he has brought shame to Kula community.
Emineye-Orlu assured that, “We the good people of Kula Kingdom are solidly behind the governor and his party, APC”.
He thanked the governor for transforming Kula community that has long been abandoned by past administrations, saying, “this is the first time we are having so good. The governor appointed our son as chairman, gave scholarships to our children…Only a man blind as bat will pour invectives on him.”
In a related development, against the backdrop of the gale of impeachments sweeping across the states of the country, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Rivers State says it was in fervent prayers for the completion of the mandate of the present government in the state to avoid the truncation of its people-oriented projects and programmes for the people.
The CAN move is in line with the Christian religious injunction for the people to ceaselessly pray for their leaders since leadership is ordained by God.
The Director, National issues and Social Welfare of Rivers State CAN, Archbishop  Benjamin Obomanu stated this Wednesday in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Obomanu who is the Supreme Head and Archbishop of Christ Healing Church of Nigeria called for caution in the various state Houses of Assembly in the resort to the instrument of impeachment, saying it must be exercised in line with the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
The religious leader said that the state CAN was worried that some of the allegations against some government functionaries in some of the state Houses of Assembly were laughable.
He said that the Rivers State Governor richly deserved the prayers of the Christian faithful in the state since he had been a co-worker with Christians in the state.
Obomanu recalled that Governor Amaechi conceived the idea of an ecumenical centre and donated over 270 plots of land and was determined to practically bring it to fruition.
The CAN official also noted that the governor also assisted the body to renovate its secretariat in the state, donated buses to it and ensured that CAN programmes in the state did not suffer.
According to him, CAN has also continued to enjoy the highest number of slots for the annual Christian pilgrimages sponsored by the Amaechi government.
He commended the out-going CAN Chairman in the state, Apostle Zilly Aggrey for his various achievements, especially in crystalising the idea of the ecumenical centre and ensuring the renovation of the CAN secretariat in the state.
Obomanu who is widely speculated to succeed Aggrey said if given the mandate, he would build on the excellent relationship between CAN and the Rivers State government, work with the government to realize the ecumenical centre and execute on-going programmes and projects.
