Authorities of Kaduna
Electricity Distribution Company have warned residents of Kaduna against dumping refuse near electricity transformers and poles.
The Public Affairs Manager, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Mr Mohammad Idris, told  newsmen in Kaduna  Thursday, that the warning followed an increase in the habit in the state capital.
He said “it is a punishable offence to dump refuse near a transformer or a power pole. Adding that KEDC had assigned inspectors to identify such sites with a view to taking appropriate action.’’
Idris said many of such refuse dumps, especially in Anguwan Shanu area of Kaduna had been reported to the KEDC , saying the company would not hesitate to prosecute offenders.
He noted that apart from the health hazards of such habit to residents, the heap of garbage often triggered power surge which might blow up the transformers and collapse the electricity poles.
He, therefore, urged the Kaduna State Government to provide adequate dump sites to curb indiscriminate disposal of refuse in the township.
