JUSUN Strike, Sabotage Against Rule Of Law – Lawyer
An Abuja-based
lawyer, Barr. Samuel Akpenpuun has described the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) as a sabotage against the rule of law.
Barr. Samuel Akpenpuun, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in a telephone chat last Monday, pointed out that the crisis in the nation had reached a crescendo.
He remarked that Boko Haram in the northern part of Nigeria had whittled down law and order in the Nigerian society and expressed surprise that JUSUN was helping to worsen the situation.
The Abuja lawyer said the conspiracy to sabotage our hard earned democracy would fail.
According to him, “the enemies of a united Nigeria are fighting hard to break the country for their own selfish reasons but I tell you that such efforts will hit the rock”.
He said violence did not do any person any good.
Barr. Akpenpuun noted that much sought after “independence of the judiciary” ought to be a gradual process in a reformatory method and not a revolutionary step.
He said the strike was intended to a cause a revolution in the judiciary but expressed his preference for a reformation.
Barr. Akpenpuun said that JUSUN would have channelled their request for independence of the judiciary either through the National Assembly or through the ongoing national conference.
He said the independence of the judiciary was desirable but noted that the timing of the strike was wrong.
The Abuja lawyer urged them to call-off the strike in the interest of justice.
It will be recalled that the Rivers State branch of JUSUN had embarked on indefinite strike last month before its nationwide industrial action.
