The Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria has resolved to continue its nationwide strike which commenced on July 11.
The union passed the resolution yesterday at the special emergency meeting of its National Executive Council in Abuja.
It maintained in its communiqué issued after the meeting that it would not call off the strike until the various state governments in the country complied with the judgment of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which granted financial autonomy to the judiciary was met.
In the communiqué, signed by the National President, Mr. Marwan Adamu and the General Secretary, Isaiah Adetola, the NEC commended members of the union for remaining committed to the strike.
The union directed all its branches and chapters across the federation to remain on strike until all the issues were fully resolved.
It also condemned what it called the antics of people trying to frustrate the union.
The communique reads in part, “NEC in session condemns the antics of persons working towards frustrating the effort of the union and call on them to desist from such action forthwith.
“NEC in session commends the National Executive Committee and all members for their commitment, steadfastness and solidarity.”
The union had on July 17 directed its members under the federal judiciary to join the strike when its demands were not met one week after the industrial action began at state levels.
The union said the previous meetings of its officials with the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, the National Judicial Council, the Accountant General of the Federation and other stakeholders, in order to resolve the crisis, had ended in deadlock.
It also commended its members in Rivers State, for sustaining the industrial action despite the impasse in the state over the appointment of an acting Chief Judge and administrative judge.
It urged JUSUN members in the state to be resolute and ensure that the impasse was resolved before the industrial action, which preceded the nationwide strike, was suspended.
Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered on Tuesday that some members of the union had kicked against the continuation of the strike on the basis that it would make it impossible for them to receive the July salary before the Muslim Salah making the end of Ramadan.
