Group Wants Police Check Points At Etche/Omuma Border
A social organisation,
Etche Ethnic Practising Journalists Association (EEPJA) has called on the authorities of Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas in Rivers State to establish functional police check points at the boarder linking the two local government areas to check the upsurge of criminal activities and other social vices in the areas.
The National Co-ordinator of the group, Mr Chris Oluo made this call when he led the executive members of the body to pay a courtesy visit on the Omuma local government council chairman, Hon Emeka Nwogu, over the weekend. Mr Oluo condemned the spate of criminal activities and unwaton killings across the two local governments, adding that local government areas were facing security challenges and security of lives and properties should be the priority of any government.
According to him, “in March this year, one Mr Chimezie Anucha, a young man was cut in his prime by suspected assassins along Umuola / Eberi Road. As if that was not enough, two young men from Obibi recently were also killed along same road by suspected assassins.
And few days ago, another young man from Umuebi Eberi was also killed by some faceless elements along same route,” he stated.
He averred that the incidents appear to be defeating the long aspiration of Etche ethnic nationality in demanding the construction of the link road which for decades and assured that the group would has been in a terrible state of disrepair with the local government areas to fight the crime.
Responding, the chairman of Omuma Local Government Area, Hon Emeka Nwogu thanked the group for the visit and assured to ensure that sanity was restore along the road.
