‘FRSC Not Enforcing New Number Plates Now’

ficer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Jonas Agwu, has disclosed that the corps had not fixed date to start enforcing the use of new number plates and drivers’ licence.
Agwu made the declaration while reacting to media report in some print media in Lagos recently.
He declared that the commission did not fixed August 1, 2014 as deadline for the enforcement of new mumber plates and driver’s licence, stressing that the corps stands by its earlier directive of the Joint Tax Board to suspend the enforcement and the court ruling, pending the determination of the appeal by the commission.
The Pubic Education Officer, however, advised motorists to renew their drivers’ and vehicle licences as they expire, inorder to be in line with the existing provisions of the law.
It would be recalled that one Emmanuel Ofoegbu filed a suit against FRSC through a Human Rights Activists, Ogedi Ogu on September 30,2013, challenging the powers of FRSC to issue the new number plates and drivers licence, which generated a lot of reaction from motorists in the country.
