The Federal Mortgage
Bank (FMB) says that it will soon introduce electronic cards to enable its customers in the country, especially rural dwellers to access their balances in the bank.
The Controller of the bank in Nasarawa State, Hajia Hadiza Hamidu, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Lafia on Monday.
According to her, the e-card platform is a facility that enables contributors to use the card on any Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to access their balances only.
“It is not an avenue for withdrawal but just for contributors to access their balances.
“The bank has abolished passbook hence, the introduction of the e-card. The e-card gives contributors easy access to their contributions.
“There have been rumours that the bank is not keeping proper record of their contributions. So, we want to get the card for them to check their contributions,” she said.
The controller said that the bank would soon commence a state wide sensitisation to enlighten all stakeholders,     especially those at the grassroots on the processes of the bank.
“The issue at stake has always been cynicism between the contributors and the bank.
“The targets generally are the civil servants and staff of the local governments. We will be going for the sensitisation in all the local governments in the state.
“The essence is just to enlighten them, to update them with the workings and achievements made so far by the bank,” she said.
Hamidu said that all the processes of the bank had been computerised hence the need to update customers about them before linking it up with the head office in Abuja.
She appealed to aggrieved customers to visit the bank with their complaints so as  to reconcile all issues.
The Tide reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will commence implementation of its cashless policy nationwide from July 1.
