Five Docked For Unlawful Possession Of Charms
Five men were last
Thursday charged before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for disorderly conduct and unlawful possession of charms.
The accused, Sodeinde Qudus, 32, Wale Ayeni ,21; Adebanjo Ridwan ,24; Lucky Dike,20; and Adedeji Adeshina , 22 — are facing a two-count charge of disorderly conduct and possession of charms.
They are all residents of Igbogbo near Ikorodu.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the accused were arrested near Club 24 on Igbogbo road following a tip-off.
“Some people in the community reported to the police that strange activities were happening in the area and this led to the arrest of the accused by the police.’’
Ajiteru also said that assorted charms were found on them during a search.
Our correspondent reports that the police tendered as exhibits the charms wrapped in red and black clothes.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 166 (h) and 133(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Reporters also reports that Section 166 (h) provides three months imprisonment or N45, 000 fine for wandering, while Section 133(b) stipulates 14 years imprisonment for possession of charms.
The men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Senior Magistrate, Mr W.B. Balogun, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two responsible sureties each.
He said the sureties must be a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to July 19 for mention.
