Expert Urges Liberal Estate Valuers’ Registration

An estate surveyor and
valuer in Port Harcourt, Mr Hycinth Oseji has called for a more liberal approach in the process of registering estate surveyors and valuers in Nigeria.
He said that the nature of work done by estate surveyors and valuers is more visible everywhere, as they deal on the finished product.
Oseji who stated this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt urged relevant government authority charged with the responsibility of registering estate surveyors to seek for liberal process.
On the issue of mortgage, the valuer said that government, especially at the state level, should provide funds and encourage people to contribute to the mortgage pool for social housing, and sell them at low rate.
He said that pension funds, insurance companies, Cooperative Societies and other related agencies who usually have access to long-term funds should be encouraged to make same available to mortgage institutions, as applicable in other parts of the world.
According to him, government should carry out enlightenment and publicity to educate the public on repayment of Mortgage loan adding that loan should be attractive and interest made low, pointing that government should do everything possible to make interest rate on Mortgage low.
On the housing units being developed at the Greater Port Harcourt City, Mr  Oseji, stated that government of Rivers State should provide Mortgage to the low income earners if this group of income earners must own houses at the GPHC.
He said that the issue of housing difficult will be tackled, when the mortgage system is being taken seriously by the government saying that specific housing units should be targeted annually.
