In Rivers State, Mr. Mishark Oye has said that the dredging of canals and rivers across the Rivers State will solve the problem of flooding in the state.
Reacting to the alleged impending flooding in the state, Mr. Oye also described as false insinuations that the throwing of refuse into the rivers lead to flooding. He said rivers like the Orashi which connects four local government areas need constant dredging to ensure the free flow of waters.
Mr. Oye said that to save the state from the impending flood disaster, the Rivers State must commence the dredging of major rivers.
He also said that drainages in Port Harcourt and environs also need to be constantly dredged by the authorities.
“The Orashi which is a major river that collects water from the River Niger needs to be constantly dredged,” he said.
In the impending flood disaster, he said that the government must begin the sanitisation of communities around the affected local government councils.
Mr. Oye also called for the construction of rehabilitation centres in the 14 local governments areas that the flood would  affected.
It would be recalled that the state government through the Ministry of Special Duties has alerted the public of an impending flood disaster in the state.
According to the Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Dickson Umunakwe the flood will affect 14 local government areas in the state.
