Rumours that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is after some council chairmen in Rivers State has been dismissed as false.
Caretaker Chairman of Oyibo Local Government Area, David Onyegorom told newsmen at the weekend that at no time did EFCC arrest any local government official in the state.
He blamed the late release of council funds due to directives from the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) to deduct loans at source.
“Deductions are being made from loans former council executives collected from the Paris Club”, he disclosed.
Onyegorom said already the matter is in court and that the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) will soon make its position public on the matter.
He pleaded on council staff to exercise patience as funds have been released assuring that their salaries will soon be paid.
Meanwhile, CTC Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area has disclosed plans to honour Governor Chibuike Amaechi with a chieftaincy title.
Hon. Onyegorom said, “We are waiting for him to come and be bestowed a chieftaincy title for the good things he has done for us.”
The Oyigbo CTC boss said in the history of the area, this is the first time the people have been affected positively by the state government with scholarships, good roads, schools and other projects.
He, therefore, called on Oyigbo people to mobilise and support the administration of Amaechi, promising that the people will go with the governor to any party he joins.
