Edo Assembly Impeaches Deputy Speaker

The Edo State
House of Assembly last Wednesday at the old Executive Council Chambers, Government House, impeached the Deputy Speaker, Festus Ebea, and replaced him with Victor Edoror.
Fifteen members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took part in the sitting.
Until late last year when Edoror defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to  the APC, Ebea was the only APC lawmaker from Edo Central Senatorial District.
The impeachment of the suspended deputy speaker was sequel to a motion moved by the Chief Whip of the House, Foly Ogedengbe, representing Owan East and seconded by Patrick Asowerien, representing Orhionmwon Constituency 1.
Similarly, the election of Victor Edoror as the deputy speaker was due to a motion moved by Bamidele Oloruntoba, representing Akoko-Edo Constituency I and seconded by Sunday Osazemwinde, representing Ovia North East Constituency 1.
The lawmakers accused the former deputy speaker of allegedly breaking into the hallowed chambers to forcefully take over the office of the Speaker, Uyi   Igbe, alleging high handedness and gross misconduct.
Reacting to the impeachment, the Minority leader of the House Emma Okoduwa, stated that the action of the APC lawmakers negated the constitutional provision that has to do with the impeachment of a deputy speaker.
The House has been in the news for weeks over speculation that some members were plotting the impeacement of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
The governor himself alleged that the APC members, who recently defected to the PDP were paid millions to commence process to unseat him.
