Ebonyi Police Debunk Insurgents’ Arrest Rumour

The police in Ebonyi
State have debunked rumour of arrests of Boko Haram as residents of Abakaliki, were thrown into panic, when news filtered  that no fewer than 17 members of the sect had been arrested in Amasiri, Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state.
Reacting to the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chris Anyanwu, dispelled the rumour, stating that the suspects were illegal immigrants intercepted by the Nigerian Army at the Amasiri junction of the Afikpo/Okigwe federal highway.
According to the police image maker, the suspects were travelling from Lagos to Ebonyi State and were citizens of neighbouring West African countries.
Anyanwu enjoined the people to exercise caution in spreading information on security matters, to avoid causing panic, in view of the security situation in the country.
