Captain Targets Gold In Boxing At C’Wealth Games
The captain of Nigeria’s
boxing team to the forthcoming 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasglow, Scotland, Efetobor Apochi, has assured Nigerians that the team would win three gold medals in the event.
The Mexico-based boxer told newsmen in Abuja that the boxers were preparing hard for the competition.
“We are fully preparing for the game and we hope to win gold by the grace of God. I can tell you that we are getting three gold if not more and some other medals.
“For me it is a gold because I have stepped up my boxing so high now and God forbid, no 91kg is going to beat me from any of the commonwealth countries.
“For Edith Agu as well, I believe she is going to win gold because she did absolutely well in the Olympics.“
The captain also said that the experience the boxers had had from various international competitions would help them achieve the desired result in Glasgow.
“I won a silver medal for Nigeria in the All African Games in 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique and since then things have changed for good.
“I have also learnt a lot from the last Commonwealth Games though I didn’t participate due to injury and from there I went to England to train,“ he added.
The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to begin on July 23 and end on August 3 with Nigeria participating in seven sports.
