Motorists in Port
Harcourt and its environs have again been advised not to bribe or give cash inducement to any Rivers State Road Traffic management Authority (TIMARIV) marshal over traffic offences.
The Chief Press Officer of TIMARIV, Nimi Brown-West, gave the advice in a statement made available to The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt, recently.
Brown-West said motorists should note that it was an offence to give cash inducement to any TIMARIV traffic marshal, either on the road or at the impoundment lots in the zones and annexes.
According to him, motorists should not be in a haste when dealing with their traffic offence matters, stressing that such might lead to extortion of money from unsuspecting road users.
He also warned against monetary negotiation with any marshal on any traffic offence, reiterating that motorists should not delegate any marshal to go and pay their fines in the bank.
The spokesman of TIMARIV further enjoined motorists to demand for their docket and bank tellers to go and pay their fines in any of the designated banks in the state.
“Avoid being extorted by TIMARIV marshals. Do the right thing always”, he posited.
