Shell Declares Force Majeure On Crude Lifting
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) yesterday declared force majeure on crude lifting from the EA Field offshore Warri in Delta State.
In a statement signed by the company’s Corporate Media Relations Manager, Precious Okolobo, yesterday said the suspension of production at the EA field was to enable repair of the soft yoke mooring platform (SYMP) which connects the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, Sea Eagle with the mooring platform.
The statement indicated that suspension means that some 40,000 barrels of oil per day production has been deferred.
Okolobo added that the company took the decision because recent bad weather offshore had damaged the SYMP bearing, thereby necessitating the shutdown of the facility.
According to him, “Effective 1200hrs (Nigerian time) today (June 12), SPDC declared force majeure on offtakes for the EA blend until the work programme is completed and production resumed.”
The EA field is located south west of Warri in water depths of around 25 metres. First oil was achieved on the platform on December 14, 2002, the statement added.
