Rivers Police Charge 584 Suspects To Court

Police Command says it has charged 584 suspects who committed various degree offences to court in three months.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Tunde Johnson Ogunsakin stated this while briefing journalists on the score card of his command for the months February, March and April, 2014, recently in Port Harcourt, adding that the command within the period under review, effectively discharged its constitutional responsibilities.
CP Ogunsakin disclosed that out of the 584 suspects charged to court, 153 were convicted, 285 were awaiting trial while 66 suspects were discharged from their charges brought against them.
According to him, the month of April and February recorded the highest crime with 198 and 181 cases respectively, adding that the month of March recorded 171 crime cases.
“As a matter of fact, in the area of kidnapping overseen by the Anti-kidnapping unit, we have recorded a reduction of the incidence by about 49% in the past three months with a total of 31 cases as against the 21 cases recorded in January alone.
“In other areas such as armed robbery, the assiduous efforts of the Special Anti-robbery Squad have seen a commendable rise in the arrest of robbers. Statistically speaking, a rise in apprehension.
