Rivers Karatekas Set To Surpass Previous NSF Records

In a bid to surpass the
number of medals won at the last National Sports Festival, Rivers State Karate Association has embarked on upgrading and clinic for Karatekas in the State.
Head Coach of the State Karate, Yacob Kingsley Eweli, stated this in exclusive interview with Tidesports in Port Harcourt yesterday.
He said that Karatekas in the state have concluded arrangements to travel to Lagos State for the forthcoming national open Karate Championship today as parts of programmes to prepare Athletes for National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Cross River State later this year.
He further said that the team is warning up for black belt open Karate upgrading/championship in Abuja later this month.
The Karate chief said that the competitions would be used to access the fitness and standard of the state karatekas ahead of the 19th NSF games tagged “2014 Paradise Games”.
“The competitions are self-sponsored, we want to do our level best as a body to ensure adequate preparation for the task ahead”, he stated.
It would be recalled that the state Karate team won silver in the recently concluded karate championship tagged ‘Aguma National Open Karate Championship” in Edo State.
