Rivers Guber: Let’s Play Down Ethnicity – Lulu Briggs
A former governorship
candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs says the 2015 elections in Rivers State should be about who will take the state to a greater height and not about which of the ethnic nationalities in the state will produce the next governor.
Chief Lulu-Briggs made this remark during his investiture as the patron of the Rivers Youth Network Forum ( RYNF) in Port Harcourt, recently.
He also said that there was no need to start fighting for who becomes governor of the state now when the election is far away in 2015.
The politician and businessman regretted that the state has not prospered as it ought to be, saying that the state generates more than 70% of the nation’s income and 42% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He commended the Rivers Youth Network Forum for their peaceful disposition as he reminded them that the state has many potentials.
Earlier, the president of RYNF, Kingcity Okwelle promised that youths of Rivers State would continue to be law abiding and as well shun all forms of violence and other anti-social behaviours that might discredit the state and her people.
Comrade Okwelle informed that the choice of Chief Lulu-Briggs was not politically motivated, but was as a result of his contributions to the growth of youths in the country and the development of Rivers State and the country at large.
He also commended the Rivers State Government led by Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi for providing the enabling and condusive environment for business to thrive despite efforts by some persons to scuttle peace and tranquility in the state.
According to him, “The conducive nature and peace in the state has afforded the youth in the state to carry out their campaigns in the state without interference”.
He, however, appealed to the state government not to relent in its bid to support the youth in job creation and other social welfare, adding that the youths of the state are industrious and ready to work for the development of the state.
