The Rector of the Rivers
State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS), Port Harcourt, Dr. Hillary Wordu has pledged the commitment of the management of the College towards the actualization of its mandate of providing the most needed knowledge in skills acquisition and middle-level manpower development in the state.
The Rector gave the charge during the 23rd matriculation ceremony of the school in Port Harcourt last Friday.
Dr wordu said the school will not compromise its standards in the pursuit of academic excellence and will enforce zero tolerance for vices such as cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, among others.
Addressing the matriculating students, the Rector said the students should serve as ambassadors of the institution, and cautioned against the use of violence as a means of expressing demands.
He said management was poised to provide a conducive learning environment through the provision of learning facilities, and urged the matriculants to utilize the opportunity to work hard in their academic endeavour.
Wordu also called on parents not to lose touch with the activities of their children, noting that the upbringing of the students was not the responsibility of the school alone.
The Rector said 2,407 students formally enrolled as students for the academic year, and thanked the Rivers Sate Government for its support to the school in meeting its mandate of achieving academic excellence.
