Oyegun Emerges APC National Chairman

State, Chief John Odie-Oyegun has emerged as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) .   Oyegun thereby replaces the out-going Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande who had been on acting capacity since the party emerged, last year.
Other officers elected at the party’s national convention include former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni as the new Deputy National Chairman.(South), while a former National Secretary of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Alhaji Lawal Shuaibu was returned unopposed as Deputy National Chairman (North).
The interim National Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Bala Gubi was elected the substantive secretary  while Alhaji Lai Mohammed retains his position as  the National Publicity Secretary, unopposed.
Hon. Zakare Ede  becomes the new National Vice-Chairman for North-Central. Hajiya Ramatu (National Woman Leader).

. The convention was well attended by party leaders including former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar;  former Governor of Lagos State and a National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the outgoing Interim National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande; a former National Chairman of  the the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Ogbonnaya Onu; ex-National Chairman of Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), Prince Tony Momoh and the APC governors led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Rt.Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
However, Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno was absent from  the Convention, on the account of what he called “a mark of respect for the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.” Also absent from the convention were former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Ogoba, his erstwhile deputy, Senator Gbenga Kaka and their factions on account of irreconciliable differences between Osoba and Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. Meanwhile, a chairmanship candidate, Chief Tom Ikimi, allegedly boyeotted the convention in protest because he could not get the support of the party leaders.
Chief Odigie-Oyegun in his victory speech urged  the electorate to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party does not come back in 2015.
He said the people were fed up with the PDP-led government  which he described as “visionless and clueless.”
