Ogun Spends N43m Monthly On Waste Evacuation
The Ogun State Gov
ernment says it spends an average of N43 million monthly on waste evacuation.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ayo Olubori said this in an interview with newsmen during a ministerial briefing in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Mr. Olubori said that the state government had spent more than N1 billion in the last three years to acquire waste evacuation equipment.
He further said that eight teams of the state Environmental Protection Agency were daily evacuating wastes in major urban centres of the state.
According to the commissioner, government’s efforts were being complemented by private waste managers operating under the aegis of the State Waste Managers Association since 2013.
The commissioner further said that government had engaged the services of 1000 people in 2013 for the daily cleaning of all major streets in the state.
According to him government has taken various steps to ensure a clean and healthy environment and solicited the cooperation of the people in ensuring a friendly environment in the state.
