Obiano Names Akunyili’s Burial Committee

formation and Communication Minister, Professor Dora Akunyili, have commenced  with setting up of  an ad hoc burial committee  by  the Governor of Anambra state, Mr  Willie Obiano.
According to a statement released by Governor Obiano’s media unit, “the Ad-hoc Committee, which will be responsible for the state government’s involvement and participation in the burial of Prof. Dora Akunyili is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Oseloka Obaze. The committee will work closely with the Akunyili family.
“Other members of the Ad-hoc Committee which held its inaugural meeting on June 18, 2014 include, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Professor. Joe Asike; Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs Azuka Enemuo; Hon. Commissioner for Education; Dr. Victoria Chikwelu; Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Professor Kate Omenugha; and Special Assistant to the Governor on Events, Chido Obidiegwu, and Mrs Dorothy Nwakaego Okafor.”
The Akunyili family has fixed August 28, this year for the burial of the late Amazon at her husband’s country-home at Agulu in Anaocha local government area of the state.
Notable among those who attended the stakeholders’ meeting, include the National Chairman of APGA, Victor Umeh; Deputy Governor, Nkem Okeke; former governorship aspirant, Nicholas Ukachukwu, and the Managing Director of Orient Petroleum, Emeka Nwoka.
Others are former governor, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of late APGA Leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Ernest Obiejesi of Nest Oil and Chief Oranu.
Meanwhile, the  Agulu Peoples Union (APU) has denied the existence of any controversy over Professor Akunyili’s burial date.
In a statement, the President General of APU, Sir Paulinus Anagboso, stated clearly that there was no controversy regarding the burial date for Late Prof Dora Akunyili.
He said, “The writer who made the insinuation did so without consulting the President-General and the Igwe of Agulu.The NEC of Agulu People’s Union will meet and decide on how to give our departed Amazon the befitting burial that she deserves. The death of our dearly beloved wife, Prof Dora Akunyili has left the entire Agulu people devastated and despondent.
“Her painful demise has cast a pall of gloom and solemnity over our usually vibrant town. Prof Akunyili was a great source of pride and beacon of hope to our community. “To the nation, she was a respected icon and a great inspiration to many. I believe she was God-sent to make positive changes in our society”, he added.
“She was widely adored because she gave her best in all her national assignments, putting her life on the line in her determination to deliver results. Her honesty, integrity and brilliance were unquestionable. At PTF, she gained widespread admiration after she returned a huge sum of money given to her for medical treatment. Her good works at PTF led to her recommendation for the position of NAFDAC boss”, Aniagboso said.
