NLC Threatens To Join JUSUN Strike
The Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC), Rivers State chapter has threatened to join the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in the State if the Union’s demands are not properly addressed by the appropriate authorities.
The state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Chris Oruge stated this in his office at the Labour House in D/Line, Port Harcourt yesterday while speaking exclusively to The Tide.
Oruge said the entire affiliate members of the NLC in the state were totally in support of the issue raised by JUSUN on security of its members and property within the court complex throughout the state.
The NLC boss said the state Executive Council of the congress would meet very soon to take a position on the ongoing strike action and also strategise on how to effectively mobilise the entire workforce in the state’s public service to show solidarity to the union.
Oruge condemned the wanton destruction of property as witnessed at the Ahoada High Court complex penultimate week, stressing that the security agencies must rise up to the challenges to safeguard lives and property in the state.
He said the labour organization in the state would not tolerate a situation where lives and properties are not safe.
Oruge urged the police high command in the state not to rest on its oars in fishing out criminal elements including politicians out to create tension.
He said the strike action of JUSUN could only be called off when all necessary measures relating to security of lives and properties are put in place.
