Nigerian Students Support Amaechi, APC
The National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) has pledged to support Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi administration no matter the political party he belongs to.
The umbrella body of the student unions in the country declared that as a former member and senator in NANS, Governor Amaechi remained their own and would always get their support.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the newly elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, in Port Harcourt, Assistant Secretary, Zone B of NANS, Comrade Lah Amabu Ledego said the decision was taken even before the governor joined the APC.
He said, “Some people will ask why did the students decide to be partisan this time. We have decided to be partisan because of Amaechi. Amaechi was a former President of National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) worldwide. By his position then, he was a Senator in NANS. So as a former member of NANS, the students decided that there is no way considering what they have seen that they would not stand by him.
“If you look at what he has done in education we used to sit under the tree to study, but today in my community, I am from Khana in Ogoni, we have two model primary schools. I can say that without fear that these primary schools Amaechi has built are UK standard, and second to none in Nigeria.’’
Ledego said the student body was also impressed with the governor’s style of governance.
According to him, “we have decided that having seen transparency in governance, having seen leadership redefined, having seen democracy being raised beyond what it used to be because Amaechi has set a standard for the young ones in the country to follow, we decided that as our leader, we will support him.
“We have decided to surrender the student leadership structure to any party that Amaechi joins. If Amaechi today moves to another party, the entire students will join him. If Amaechi goes back to PDP,God forbid!. We will also go back with him.”
In response, Chief Ikanya lauded the students for their support and enjoined them to be ambassadors of peace.
He described them as future leaders who must jealously guard and protect the country’s democracy by being good followers and supporters of truth.
