Nigerian Governors Storm PH …As NGF Retreat Holds
Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital is now agog as governors across political affiliations yesterday stormed the state to attend the 4th Nigerian Governors’ Forum Retreat scheduled to hold at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
A statement issued in Abuja by the Director-General of the NGF, A.B. Okauru, indicated that the Rivers State Governor, and Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, is the chief host of the retreat.
Okauru said that the retreat would focus on three thematic topics covering healthcare, youth unemployment and transitioning out, in view of the fact that most of the governors are coasting toward their last months in office.
On healthcare, Okauru noted that such issues as achieving and sustaining universal primary healthcare at the sub-national level, funding, and infrastructure and manpower, would dominate discourse at the retreat.
According to him, institutional arrangements (policies, programmes and enabling environment), training (conventional and vocational trainings, improved curriculum), and financing would dictate decisions on issues relating to youth unemployment.
He also said that the retreat, which would be attended strictly by invitation, will further focus attention on life after office, with a detailed scrutiny of the different perspectives and challenges for the governors.
Meanwhile, most of the governors billed to attend the retreat have already arrived Port Harcourt.
