NDLEA Seeks Quick Passage Of Anti-Drug Abuse Bill
The Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for the passage of a bill seeking to ban some substances in the state.
The Commander of the agency in the state, Mr Sule Momodu, said in Awka that it had last year sent a bill to the state assembly for the purpose.
He said the bill was for a law to regulate and restrict the use of or sale of substances which were capable of being abused.
Momodu listed some of the substances to include local gins mixed with cannabis (monkey tail), solution, tramol, cough syrup with codeine, ethanol, valium and other substances with similar effects.
He said that any person or persons who illegally manufactured, produced, planted, possessed or grew any of the substances which were capable of being abused should be guilty of an offence.
The Commander appealed to the state government for logistics support, pointing out that the agency was facing operational challenges to carry out its duties.
“The journey is rough and we are making progress, but with the legislation and logistics support from the state government, we will make more progress and achieve better results than we have done so far,’’ he said.
