Monarch Tasks Residents On Clean Environment

Ajede, has urged the people of Ilodo in Ijebu-Ode  Local Government Area, to maintain a clean environment, to reduce the prevalence of malaria.
Ajede, the Ogirimadagbo of Ilodo, made the call when some officials of the Society for Family Health (SFH) paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ijebu Ode.
Ajede said, “Malaria has been with us for ages and it has claimed millions of lives, especially children. That is why we have to pay serious attention to it and as the saying goes, prevention is always better than cure.
“Since it is contacted through mosquito bite, which is bred in stagnant water, we must rid our surroundings of stagnant water,” he added.
The traditional ruler, who noted that only good hygiene could keep mosquitoes away, advised residents to cover their drains and prevent the accumulation of stagnant water.
Ajede enjoined the SFH team to take the campaign to schools and sensitise children on health hazards associated with dirty environment.
He said this would help complement the ideology behind the distribution of the Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLIN).
The traditional ruler pledged his support in educating the people of Ilodo community of the need to embrace the use of the nets.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr Ernest Nwokolo, the Director, Global Fund Malaria Project of the SFH, said that the distribution of the nets was a national strategy to combat malaria prevalence.
According to him, the SFH is working in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Health to ensure a successful campaign against malaria.
