Ministry Inaugurates Committee On Illegal Buildings
The Rivers State Min
istry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, has inaugurated a monitoring committee to rid the city of Port Harcourt of illegal buildings and street trading.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Lawson Ikuru, while inaugurating the team in Port Harcourt, recently, stated that the rate at which illegal buildings and street markets were re-surfacing in the city of Port Harcourt in recent time, call for concern.
He stated that government would no longer fold its hands and watch people who do not have respect for rules and regulations to deface the city with their illegal activities.
According to him, the taskforce committee will swing into action any moment from now, and will ensure that nothing will be spared in ensuring that such illegal buildings and markets are subdued.
The committee, which is to be headed by Mr. Mina Aprioku, who is also a director in the Ministry has the mandate to demolish all structures used for street trading, as well as buildings that are illegally erected.
They are also to keep monitoring from time to time in various parts of the metropolis to ensure that such illegal structures do not resurface again.
