Man Remanded For Theft
A middle-aged man,
Rasaq Jeje, last Thursday appeared before a Federal High Court in Ibadan over alleged vandalism of oil criterial pipeline and theft of 140 litres of petrol.
Jeje was arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage, willful destruction and stealing.
Prosecution Counsel, Mr Adedeji Olayiwola, said that Jeje was arrested while vandalising the pipelines at 2.15a.m. on May 2 in Oyo Town, Oyo State.
Olayiwola submitted that the accused committed the offences in conspiracy with others at large.
He said that the pipeline and petrol belonged to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
He told the court that the offences contravened Sections 518 (6) (7a), 177 (a) and (b) and 390 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act No. 17, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
Counsel to Jeje, Mr Gbenga Falade, did not apply for his bail but prayed the court for accelerated hearing of the case.
He said that his client had no family to perfect his bail, if given.
Justice Ayo Emmanuel ordered that Jeje should be remanded in prison custody.
He adjourned the case to July 10 for hearing.
