Man Jailed For Handset Theft

Court last Tuesday sentenced Zayyanu Sani, 30, Maris Park, Zuba in the FCT, to nine months imprisonment for receiving a stolen telephone.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Haruna Danlami, had told the court that on April 16, one Haruna Sani also of Maris Park, Zuba, reported the matter against one Abdulrahaman Ibrahim at Zuba Police Station.
Danlami said that the complainant alleged that Ibrahim of the same address, stole his Techno telephone worth N7,000 and sold it to the convict.
He said the phone was sold to the convict at N1,300.
He said that during police investigation, the stolen phone was discovered in Sani’s possession and that he also confessed to have bought it from Ibrahim.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened section 317 of the Penal Code.
The convict pleaded guilty and the presiding judge, Malam Aminu Sa’ad, in his ruling, convicted him on the one-count charge of receiving stolen property.
Sa’ad, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.
