Life Time Achievement Award: Segun Arinze Pours Encomiums On Kenneth Okonkwo
Foremost Nollywood actor
and former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Segun Arinze popularly known as the Black Arrow has poured encomiums on a veteran Nollywood colleague, Mr Kenneth Okonkwo who bagged the life time Achievement Award at the 10th edition of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State May 24th, 2014.
Reading Okonkwo’s rich resume at the event, the baritone voice actor noted that Kenneth Okonkwo was one of the pioneers of Nigerian movie industry known today as Nollywood. He played the role of Andy Okeke in Living In Bondage one of the earliest Nollywood home vidoes.
In 1986, he went to the University of Port Harcourt where he graduated in Theatre Arts and later proceeded to University of Lagos where he obtained a Masters Degree in International Relations. He was one time National President of Nigerian Universities Theatre Arts Students Association (NUTASA) and coordinator NYSC Drama Troupe in Oyo State, winner Christian Film Makers Role model award 2014 as well as FEMA and REAL Awards winner.
Kenneth Okonkwo was the lead actor in the now rested longest lasting and award winning TV Reality show Checkmate which shot him into the limelight. This actor of vast credit in the movie industry is also the toast of many producers and directors as he features in nine out of every 10 movies produced as well as choice of many actresses.
The Anambra State-born veteran actor is also the producer of the award winning flick, Wedding Bell. He has also featured in countless Nollywood home videos such as Evil Genius, Gun Powder, Beyond the Altar, Tokumbo, Blood Brothers, Apologies, My Girl Ogbante, One Dollar Risky Affair among others. He was one time Anchorman of Guilder Ultimate reality show and presently the Senior Special Adviser to Anambra State Governor (Willie Obiano) on Movie and Entertainment Matters.
