Izi Blaze Thrills RSUST Students
Friday May 6, 2014 was
a day of unending laughter and fun for students of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) as one of their colleagues, Mr Israel Chimeremeze Nworgu, popularly known as the youngest comedian in Port Harcourt, organised a drama and comedy clash for the first time in the institution.
The venue of the event, Chapel of Redemption Outrich Church hall, RSUST, was filled to capacity as the students and other distinguished guests stormed the place to witness the historic event which also featured choral rendition by the JCCF Mass Choir.
The drama groups that participated at the event include: Unique Theatre, Master Theatre, Ginger Theatre, Jurist Evangelical Theatre, Gospel Theatre and Arise and Shine Theatre.
At the end of their interesting stage performances, Arise and Shine Theatre group emerged winner, Master theatre came second while Unique Theatre group won the third position.
The results were announced by the jury made up of Mr Peter Nwankwo (DGN), Naziba Peterside and MC Talkative.
The comedians who performed at the stage include Evangelist Open Teeth, MC Hurricane and the host comedian, Izi Blaze.
Speaking with The Tide Entertainment shortly after the event, the organiser and Ikwerre-born popular comedian, Izi Blaze, who is also a 400 level Marine Engineering student of RSUST, noted that comedy has come to stay in Rivers State as a major form of entertainment and the comedians resident in Port Harcourt are doing extremely well, but what they lack here is government sponsorship and encouragement from public spirited individuals to help the up-coming comedians organise regular shows that would promote their talents to the outside world.
He said apart from this, it is a source of empowerment for practitioners, therefore, reducing unemployment among youths in the state.
According to the comedian, the aim of the event is to discover hidden talents in theatre and comedy, and commended the Joint Christian Fellowship, RSUST for assisting in making the event a huge success.
On his choice of comedy as a profession, he said apart from the fact that he is currently studying Marine Engineering at RSUST, comedy has been his childhood talent.
According to him, he was inspired by Ace comedians such as Rugged Pastor, Bovi, Gordons and Akas Baba of Wazobia FM, Port Harcourt, among others.
