There was a mild
drama at Lagos Bus Stop in Port Harcourt, Monday, as touts who claimed to be operating as a taskforce for the Board of Internal Revenue Services, Rivers State, engaged a commercial taxi driver in a physical combat, inflicting injury on the him before impounding his vehicle to their base at the Railway terminal, on Station Road, Port Harcourt.
The touts, numbering four, were said to have intercepted the taxi driver who just discharged some passengers that boarded his vehicle from Aba Road.
As the driver of the commercial taxi cab parked at Lagos bus stop for his passengers to disembark, the sterm-looking boys in white T-shirts, with a design of the coat of arms on the shoulder surrounded his vehicle and started dragging the key with him.
In the process, the leader of the touts (names withheld) began to assault the driver physically.
Some passengers and traders doing business in the area condemned the act, saying that if not checked by the government, the trend could lead to loss of lives as well as cause hardship to some operators of commercial taxi cabs in the state.
According to them, it had been a daily show of shame as touts who claimed to be member of one taskforce or the other harass and molest commercial drivers and their passengers.
They therefore called on the government and other relevant authorities to quickly wade in before it is too late.
When contacted on phone, a senior staff of the board, Austin Ntor-ue said that the revenue board did not have any taskforce and that anyone operating with their name was a fake officer.
