The Federal

In her speech at the ceremony on Friday, the Minister of State, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ms Olajumoke Akinjide assured residents of the area of more affordable houses that will improve their living standards.
She said that the provision of affordable housing was an important intervention capable of hastening the country’s socio-economic transformation.
Akinjide explained that the 44-Units housing estate with swimming pool and tennis courts is to address the housing deficit of the country, pointing out that the population of FCT has grown to about six million with only 11 districts developed in the three and half decades of the FCT.
She said “It is being forecast that the FCT’s growth is expected to rise to 10 million people by 2015. The FCTA, mindful of the early warning, came up with land swap model, a policy the administration intended to leverage on to provide housing and infrastructure in the FCT. The policy would help save needed funds for social services”.
According to her, the FCTA anticipates that the policy will provide additional housing for more than 500,000 residents and reduce the housing deficit by about 65 percent in the next five years.
Akinjide stated that the Federal Government intended to build 5,000 housing units in the FCT and establish two new districts for affordable and social housing in Wasa Mamusa.
She also commended the efforts of private developers in curbing the infrastructure deficit in the country, adding that the vision of the present administration was to build a capital that would be among the best 20 cities in the world by 2020.
Earlier the group Managing Director, Oasis Group Limited, Mr. Wale Adegbite who is also the developer of the estate, had said that its partnership with FCTA was to deliver spacious homes to the residents.
