Federation Plans Fitness Festival In PH

Federation of Nigeria has said that arrangements are in to gear to host a fitness and Expo Festival in Port Harcourt, Rivers State from 11th July, 2014.
President of the Federation, Soye Elekima who disclosed this Tuesday, in an interview with Tidesports in his office said that the programme was endorsed by the National Sports Commission and supported by the Rivers State Ministry of Sports.
According to him, the Festival is a life style celebration of Nigeria centenary, saying that, for the past ten years Nigeria has experienced a dramatic increase fitness popularity as many people are joining fitness centres to improve their strength and physical conditioning.
He further stated that as Nigerians discover those benefits, many more people would sign up and take part in fitness training as their culture.
Elekima also said that the festival is being hosted to mark the International Fitness Expo Standard in Port Harcourt, adding that it is a premier event for ages of four and 18 (Junior), 19 and 21 (Senior) and 41 and above for masters respectively.
He further said that the programme would be used as qualifier for different international events, besides health benefits the fiesta is also a celebration of the Nigeria healthy style as well as encouragement to grassroots sports development, explore and harness the idea of operation “Catch Them Young.”
It was gathered that  expected at the fiesta include fee health/fitness assessment, Miss Bikini Nigeria, Sie Active Living Festival, (50 + dance), Pilates, Men’s ultimate classic, Zumba Gold, Chear Leading and dance, Expo, 5Km Walk/run and Family Day, Strongman and jump roup, lablast, A-Z Competition, ultimate teen challenges and youth dance sport.
Dignitaries expected at the event include the Minister of Sports Nigeria, Dr. Tamuno Baabo Wenike Danagogo , President, International Federation of Body Building and Fitness (IFBB), Dr Rafael Santonja and the Vice President, International Federation of Body Building and Fitness (IFBB), Engr. Adel Fahim.
