Estate Agent Escapes Lynching In PH
An estate agent in Port
Harcourt, Mooruf Niyi has escaped being lynched by an angry mob over alleged theft of N800,000 from an accommodation seeker.
The estate agent who is said to be residing at Rumuodara in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State was alleged to have collected the said sum from one Moses Akanji on the pretext of securing a two-bedroom flat for him.
The Tide gathered that the said estate agent used a building situated on one of the streets at Rumukwurushi which he pretended to be a vacant accommodation to defraud the victim.
An eye witness to the incident said that the said Niyi who has been engaged in the real estate agency business had severally been accused of swindling accommodation seekers, but that luck ran out on him, when on Thursday, he was caught by his victim, Akanji.
According to the eye witness, Mr Akanji who had always been on a watch on how to get the estate agent, raised alarm when he grabbed him, which attracted the sympathy of other people who came to his rescue.
It was gathered that the victim’s continuous shout over his ‘stolen’ money compelled the mob at Rumuodara to descend on the estate agent. But was however rescued by some policemen who were on a separate mission.
The Tide’s further findings on the matter revealed that there were more complaints about the likes of Mr Niyi who had duped accommodation seekers in the area, and had been in hiding.
Such issue, it was gathered, angered the mob who wanted to use one of the swindlers in the like of Niyi to set example for others to learn their lesson.
