Ekiti Guber Polls: CNPP Urges INEC To Use e-Card Readers
The National Pub
licity Secretary, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Mr Osita Okechukwu, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use e-card readers for Ekiti governorship election slated for June 21.
Okechukwu who made the call last Wednesday in Abuja, said the use of e-card readers for elections across the world had proven to be the antidote to rigging.
According to him, the modem helps to determine the actual number of voters, and should be used not only to test the usefulness of the modem, but to also underscore the need for INEC to adapt to modern technology.
“If the e-card reader is used successfully for Ekiti poll, it will be the justification for the billions of Naira spent on the Direct Data Capture Machines and its Biometric variant”, Okechukwu said.
He called on INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega to see Ekiti governorship election and that of Osun as the “litmus test” for the smoth conduct of the upcoming 2015 general elections.
“To avoid what happened in Anambra, INEC should by now have clean voters register for the Ekiti and Osun elections devoid of mangles and omissions”, he said.
