A Canadian Karate in
structor, Sensel Tewinkel, last Tuesday in Lagos expressed satisfaction with the knowledge of the sport by Nigerian coaches.
Twinkel, who was the resource person at the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) organised seminar, said that he was satisfied with the performance of the coaches.
He told newsmen that the participants responded well to the techniques and skills taught during the seminar.
The seminar attended by no fewer than 53 coaches was held in Lagos from June 7 to 10.
“I am impressed with the Nigerian coaches that participated in the seminar, the reason is that they are responsive to all the theory and practical classes I taught them.
“The passion to upgrade their technical abilities according to the current standard is there and it gives me joy and encouraged me in the course of the programme.
“I am optimistic that after this seminar, the coaching standard will advance which will also have a remarkable impact in the nurturing of karatekas,’’ he said.
Twinkel said that techniques and skills in four styles recognised by the World Karate Federation (WKF) was taught during the seminar.
The styles are Shitoryu, Wadoryu, Gojuryu and Shotokan.
“Shitoryu is the mother of all these styles, and that is the reason I am invited to give the coaches a thorough teaching because of the complex nature of the style,’’ Tewinkel said.
He commended KFN for orgainsing the seminar that aimed at exposing the coaches to modern techniques in karate.
“The federation must be commended for organising the seminar, I am sure the coaches have learnt a lot from participating.
“I must also say Nigeria is a good place to be. The people are accommodating and there are varieties of food which I eat,’’ he said.
Tewinkel described his five days stay in the country as memorable.
“I enjoyed myself here and I will be glad to be back here again,
