The national
leadership of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGWN), has called on government at all levels to give priority to workers’ welfare to get the best out of them.
The President of the union, Comrade Oladele Hunsu stated this while speaking with newsmen recently in Lagos.
Hunsu said workers had proved that if given the necessary working environment, like in the developed world, they would perform at their optimum.
He bemoaned the lack of safety concern at workplaces in which workers were subjected to and called on Government to put smiles on the faces of the workers.
He urged the Federal government to sanction employers who turn workplaces into industrial mortuaries, stressing that it is criminal to expose workers to avoidable hazards and danger because of profit making.
The Union Leader emphasised that workers’ welfare must be the priority of government because without the workforce, there cannot be government.
