Two In Court For Stealing Cell Phones
Two men, Ojo Thomas,
29, and Yinka Omotunase, 24, were last Wednesday arraigned in an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged theft of three cell phones valued at N248,000.
The police prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Atandeyi, told the court that the accused and others at large conspired to steal one Ipad phone valued at N150,000, a Blackberry valued at N85,000 and an Asha 210 cell phone valued at N13,000.
Atandeyi also said the second accused unlawfully received the Asha phone from the first accused, knowing it was stolen from one Mr Femi Folarin.
He said the offences were committed on April 5 at about 7.00 p.m. at Ilara Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.
Atandeyi said the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 516(A), 390 (9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Mr Ikumenisan Ilesanmi, urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Charity Adeyanju, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyanju also ordered that the sureties must be credible, have reliable means of livelihood and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She also said that the sureties must provide an affidavit of means with two recent passports and adjourned the case till May 20 for further hearing.
