Traditional Rulers Want More Dev In Oguta

The Oguta Traditional
Rulers’ Council has called on the Imo State government and oil companies in the area to step-up development activities to alleviate the people’s sufferings.
Speaking at the formal admission of the traditional ruler of Umunwama-Izombe, Eze Chijioke Collins-Egwuagu, into the council, its Chairman, Dr Ignatius Aso, said the area had not felt their impact in the area of development.
He said the area had not benefited from the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission since it was set up in 2007.
Aso regretted that most communities in Oguta lacked infrastructure such as potable water, roads, hospitals and electricity, among others.
He called on the government and the companies to do more in the areas youth empowerment, poverty alleviation, the care for the aged and widowhood care.
A maritime operator, Collins-Egwuagu,was among the traditional rulers recognised by Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo last month.
In his welcome speech, Collins-Egwuagu expressed gratitude to the people for the confidence reposed in him and thanked Okorocha for his wisdom in addressing the challenges to the presentation of his staff of office.
He promised to discuss with the two oil companies operating in his area on ways to tackle the infrastructural challenges facing the oil-rich community.
